Catching up with a few posts, I know that FB have already shared the Wonderful UFO LIVE review.
Due to copyright etiquette, we wanted to hold off until contact was made with Devils Gate Media.
We received a wonderful response from
DGM's Rob Wilkins. This website has been given access to
the high quality LIVE photo's of which have been carefully selected and posted below, along
with exeerpts of the review:
Everyone can look back and put a finger on the band the got them into a certain genre of music. For me, it was UFO. As a tall, gangly teenager, trying to find a tribe, I flirted with several wildly contrasting styles of music (embarrassing tales that will never be told). Then, listening to the radio covertly late one night, I found a new show. Tommy Vance was playing a track recorded live called “Rock Bottom” by a band called UFO. At first it didn’t grab me. Then that riff kicked in, Mogg’s vocals rang out, and I was converted, never to look back. I soon had an LP collection and a stereo capable of prodigious volume, as well as my own electric guitar (my repertoire consisting of poor attempts at covers of many of the bands of the day), but it was UFO and their off-shoots such as MSG that, for the next few years, really shaped my taste. Bizarrely then, they were one of the few bucket list bands that I have somehow missed, other than one, VERY early morning set at Download a few years ago. So, when Phil Mogg announced that at the age of seventy plus he was calling it a day, I was determined to get up close and personal and make some memories...
...“Too Hot To Handle” had even the distinctly middle-aged, but incredibly passionate, crowd swaying and singing along. The solo by Moore a stunner, not missing a note whilst playing it behind his head. “Burn Your House Down” gave a brief respite, then Raymond picked out a recognisable key line that drew a huge cheer from the crowd. De Luca added a soft bass, Moore came in with a crashing power chord, and the music built, adding layer upon layer for “Love To Love”. For me, this is UFO’s “Stairway”. It is a song that steps outside of the boundaries of “metal” or “rock” with a myriad of influences, pace changes, key changes, and shifts in dynamics. As if that wasn’t enough, they followed it with “Rock Bottom”, and I was in heaven, back in my bedroom listening to the radio in the dark once more. Of course there was still so much more to come. There was no way UFO were leaving the building without “Doctor Doctor” and finally “Shoot Shoot” to send the fans home having seen their heroes (and mine) for the last time.... Excerpts from the REVIEW: They’re in very familiar territory with opener Mother Mary. Dapper and shaven-headed, sprightly 70-year-old Mogg’s voice is as strong as ever on a song that underlines his status as one of rock’s most evocative and under-appreciated lyricists. (How many other metal acts would come up with a line like “Would you try to understand a wild colonial boy?”) As ever, Moore subjugates his technical brilliance to the needs of the song, effortlessly emulating Michael Schenker’s distinctive phrasing as his resists any temptation to overplay, having been assimilated into UFO far more effectively than Steve Vai ever was into Whitesnake.... ...Set-wise, there are some pleasing digressions into more recent recordings, including two songs (Run Boy Run, Messiah of Love) from the band’s most recent studio album of original material, A Conspiracy of Stars. The lovely, bittersweet Baby Blue from You Are Here makes a very welcome return, permitting Moore to do the acoustic/electric guitar thing, while Burn Your House Down from Seven Deadly – surely the best song they’ve recorded in years – has earned its place among the Strangers in the Night stuff.... ...Dispensing his usual gnomic between-song banter, Mogg’s powerful voice has never sounded better. This at a time when certain singers of his vintage (Bob Catley, Ian Anderson, David Coverdale) are clearly struggling. That makes his decision to retire both disappointing and baffling. Perhaps tellingly, he makes absolutely no mention of it tonight. Maybe he’s already changed his mind. Fingers crossed, eh? |

REVIEW AND PHOTOS
UFO Words by Jayson Burns A rammed Leamington Assembly is the venue for the latest leg of UFO’s fiftieth anniversary final tour and the partisan crowd lap up every moment of the London-based quintet’s death throes. With roots in the burgeoning rock and blues scene of the late 1960s through their seventies heyday with the addition of German guitar god Michael Schenker and various incarnations leading up to current line-up of original UFOers Phil Mogg and Andy Parker augmented by late seventies addition Paul Raymond on rhythm guitar and keyboards, Rob De Luca on bass and Vinnie Moore on lead guitar, UFO have built up a loyal following who have made this farewell into the festival of affection we witness tonight... ...Mogg’s phenomenal rock voice and the tight musicianship of those around him is the reason that ticket sales are so good for this final fling and tonight has been a nostalgic evening of love and respect for these rock icons who can still deliver a knockout punch.

And now the concert review by Reg Richardson
Short extract: The Last Orders Tour gets under way as Phil Mogg calls time on his position as frontman with UFO after a shade over 50 years. The band were formed in London in 1968 and 23 studio albums later bring this era to an end with Mogg’s farewell tour... ...Mother Mary, We Belong to the Night, Run Boy Run and Ain’t No Baby came and went to increasing audience vocalisation before the band got going with Only You Can Rock Me, just one of the bands anthems that were due to be played. Next came Baby Blue, Messiah of Love and Cherry before the band moved on to a series of iconic songs that flowed one after the other…. Thanks to Reg Richardson at RSR |

A View From The Back Of The Room: UFO (Live Review By Paul H)UFO - Last Orders Tour, O2 Academy, Bristol & The Tramshed, Cardiff ...Full marks as well to Mogg for his “lights out in Cardiff” line, causing much appreciation from the packed Welsh crowd. Love To Love from Lights Out, Only You Can Rock Me and a massive Too Hot To Handle caused grown men to lose it at both venues before Rock Bottom, complete with Moore’s masterful solo which drew sharp intakes of breath at the sheer sublime quality brought the main set to an end. With the band a little sharper and into their stride after a few dates, the Cardiff date just edged it in terms of atmosphere and performance but there wasn’t much to separate each evening. The inevitable Doctor Doctor and Shoot Shoot brought two fantastic evenings to an end. Getting what is likely to be my final fill of one of my all-time favourite bands was an absolute joy, a band whose name should be treasured in the halls of Great British classic hard rock for all time. ©2019 Paul H - Musipedia of Metal |

UFO / TARA LYNCH | LIVE REVIEWTramshed, Cardiff, Tue 12 Mar Veteran hard rock outfit UFO seamlessly beckoned the attention of a loyal fanbase on a weatherbeaten Tuesday night. As part of their 50th anniversary tour – possibly their final one – this sold-out show promised to deliver the influential live wire antics for which the band are revered... ...Paul Raymond, a revolving fixture of the band throughout their history, exhibited his versatility as a musician, adroitly flitting between keys and rhythm section with a finesse that betrayed his mainstay status during the course of the last four decades. Vinnie Moore lent renewed vitality to the 1977 classic Love To Love, replete with richly-rendered solos, showcasing equally thunderous guitar dexterity on Too Hot To Handle. Chants of the band’s name reverberated throughout the room, anticipating an encore that took the form of signature tracks Doctor Doctor and Shoot Shoot. The latter of which saw Moore, donning a black hat and earning Santana jibes from Mogg, proceeding to tear through with eviscerating technical precision. A two-hour set that emphasised the five-piece’s proto-metal legacy and undimmed durability. words CHRIS HAMILTON-PEACH - ©2019 buzz, Wales What's On Guide |

REVIEW by Mark Dean - Media Journalist
This review from RAMzine, Rock and Metalzine
Tonight at this sold out show we are blessed to see UFO on their last ever tour after fifty years in the making (1969- 2019). It’s just crazy, but all good things must come to an end. What UFO have shown tonight is that no matter what your age is, as long as you love rock then tonight we’re in paradise!... ...They can still give a performance as if they were in their teens. I cannot fault this show in any way whatsoever, they were on point not missing a beat, the vocals were perfect, the guitar solos were incredible and the whole atmosphere was like we stood back in time. What I think makes this more unique is that there are three long term original members Phil, Andy Parker (drums) and Paul Raymond (keyboardist, rhythm guitar). Despite Vinnie moore (lead guitarist) being in the band no more than sixteen years I must say his guitar playing is simply magical, the crowd were mesmerised by it!... ...Picture this, the crowd must have an average in the mid 50 – 60’s and they’re reacting like a bunch of teens. It was majestic as hell and just shows that rock will never die. Fifty years UFO have been going on and tonight we’re are honored to witness this show. I guess now it will be watching their live shows on the internet from here, a shame its come to an end, but their spirit will live on so long as we let it. As well as Graham's stunning LIVE photographs above, he has also
written a show review, extract below:
Who would have thought that after changing their name from Hocus Pocus to UFO in 1969 and releasing their space-rock debut, UFO 1 the year after, UFO would tread the boards for 50 years. The band have come a long way and achieved notoriety and success in equal measures since their debut release... ...Tonight’s show kicks off with “Mother Mary” in blistering style, Mogg’s vocals belying his 70 years. Most singers are seeing their vocal powers dwindling by this ripe age. Not Mogg. Phil’s voice is the centre piece of all things UFO and it never let’s him down through the 90 minute set. As good as he’s ever been. Mother Mary is swiftly followed by “We Belong To The Night” from 1982’s “Mechanix” album. A full throttle, rocking “Lights Out” really get’s the party started. Make no mistake, this is a real celebration of 50 years of one of UK Rock’s great institutions. “Baby Blue” showcases both the delicate side of Mogg’s delivery and the effortless power his voice holds. If anyone wasn’t feeling emotional, they were now. This isn’t just the Phil Mogg show though. UFO are most definitely a band, with all parts contributing to this wonderful set and ensuring the legacy has lived on this long. It’s hard to believe that Vinnie Moore and Rob De Luca have now been with the band 15 years and 11 years respectively. It shows, and they’ve most definitely made those places their own. Vinnie is true to the originals but puts his own twist to them. Rob has grown massively into his role since I first saw him, maybe 10 years ago. Only You Can Rock Me showcases the band to it’s full, with founding member Andy Parker bludgeoning his kit and Paul Raymond adding the extra layers he always has. It’s great to hear “Burn Your House Down” and “Messiah Of Love” from 2012 and 2015 respectively, reinforcing that UFO have been producing great albums to the end and these more recent gems fully deserve their place in the set. UFO are bowing out on top, this isn’t just a nostalgia ride. Phil Mogg has called it quits on UFO because he just can’t be bothered with the travelling and hotels any more. Such a shame as he clearly loves the stage as much as he ever did. As always, he could have been playing as a stand-up comedian tonight. Checking how everyone is at either side of the venue, he quips that he saw Tony Bennett do that once. Maybe he’s invested in a rocking chair for his retirement to do some Val Doonican style crooning. Crowd favourites “Love To Love” and “Too Hot To Handle” pave the way to Rock Bottom, when Mogg once again turns comedian, joking that he could go on holiday and get himself a suntan by the time Vinnie Moore finishes the solo. A great solo it is too , once again taking Schenker’s blueprint but making it his own, with consummate ease. “Doctor Doctor” starts running down the set. There’s no bigger compliment than Iron Maiden using one of your songs for their stage entrance – the crowd’s response shows exactly why. What better way to close the show than with “Shoot Shoot”, the first UFO record I bought. Fitting that the cowbell intro chimes last orders on the last song that UFO will ever play in Leeds. The band leave the stage to rapturous applause and adulation. There is genuine love for these guys and many in the crowd were emotional leaving the venue, not quite believing this will be the last time they see them live after following them for so many years. UFO may be calling time on their illustrious career but this is absolutely going out in style, with band and crowd loving every minute. If you haven’t got yourself a ticket, grab one quick because most venues are either sold out or on the verge of selling out – UK to April, Europe to August, U.S.A. to November. UFO – forever in our hearts and out of our speakers. READ THE REVIEW HERE, along with PHOTOS Thanks to Graham Geldard |
UFO’s “Last Orders” tour hit Leeds. If this really is it for the band and their final tour they went out here with the proverbial bang and a fine, finer performance indeed. A sad night for many – your reviewer included. I first saw UFO way back in 1978 and have been with them through thick, thin, drama, highs and (occasional) lows ever since. How many times have I seen them in concert over those four decades – too many to remember. My thanks to Mr Mogg and cohorts for so much listening and watching pleasure. Anyhow – to the show... |
Very lucky to witness UFO last night. When you see as many bands as we do especially bands at the end of their career, you don't always get a perfect experience. You think back to earlier years and when they sounded better with more original members and so forth. If you get a chance to see this band on their farewell tour, do it, because you will actually see the mighty UFO musically at the top of their game. Setlist: Encore Doctor Doctor |

SHOW REVIEW...With “Ain’t No Baby”, “Lights Out”, and “Baby Blue” they proved to everyone there that UFO, beyond any shadow of a doubt, were as fresh a rock band now as they were 50 years ago. Tight, pounding tracks, and a perfect light hearted performance as if they had their best friends round to have a blast of a party. Phil’s vocals sounded as clear and crisp as an 18 year old (he is about to turn 71), the guitar work of Vinnie was stratospheric, Rob de Luca’s bass work was mesmerising, incredibly compelling, Paul Raymond’s rhythm guitar and keyboards were on point and, of course, Andy Parker’s drumming was so energised it could have been plugged into Ballylumford Power station to top up Belfast’s electricity needs for a week. ...The night was going to be special. That was in no doubt. UFO were going to be the best version of your favourite cake. However, there was a perfect cherry on top with the addition of Tara Lynch. This was an incredibly special night, even if it wasn’t the last time UFO would be playing in Belfast. It’s a show you could see again and again without ever getting bored. Both bands were on top of their game, delivering better than solid performances, energising the crowd beyond what you would normally expect. If you can get to see UFO and Tara Lynch, then go. No second thoughts. You have to see them. It is, without going overboard, a fantastic experience that will have you going home fully satisfied and talking about it for days. ...And as the last orders bell rings out calling the band to the stage and the opening chords of Mother Mary greet the throng of faithful fans, one is reminded that they never quite hit the big time.
It certainly wasn’t for lack of killer songs, or indeed killer talent, having boasted the likes of Michael Schenker, future Whitesnake axeman Bernie Marsden, AC/DC tubthumper Simon Wright and Jason ‘son of John’ Bonham on their books. But ever the survivalists, the group defied their self-destructive personality to continue carving out the kind of classic rock numbers we’ve all come to know and love. Moore wrings the neck of every last guitar solo, Mogg stalks the stage like a Dickensian villain eyeballing the crowd, and on the likes of Lights Out a visibly shattered Parker pounds the skins so hard you wonder if he or the drums will explode at any moment... ...Let’s be honest here, I’ve seen a far few (shall we say) more heritage bands lately, and come away sometimes a little disappointed. Tonight, I’m left with the feeling that if UFO have ever sounded better, I’d have absolutely loved to have been there. The band are as tight as you like, and Mogg’s vocals are spot on. Age does not seem to have taken any toll on them at al... READ FULL REVIEW |

UFO at the O2 Academy NewcastleVeteran rockers UFO call ‘Last Orders’ on Tyneside as part a farewell tour for lead vocalist Phil Mogg. With a career dating back to 1969, this year marks the 50th Anniversary of the formation of the British hard rock legends. However, of equal significance is the fact that frontman Phil Mogg recently announced his intention to retire from the group following the conclusion of the band’s forthcoming touring activities. Therefore tonight’s show in the North East of England is somewhat of a final swan song for the band’s legendary lead vocalist. Subsequently, a packed out crowd is in attendance at the O2 Academy Newcastle to participate in this celebration of 50 years of UFO. This being the band’s first appearance in the region since 2015. A large brass bell positioned on a stack of amps at the rear of the stage rings in an almost ceremonial manner as it ushers in the start of the show. The five-piece takes to the stage to a warm Geordie welcome as they kick off the proceedings with “Mother Mary”, “We Belong To The Night” and “Run Boy Run”, which in turn forms somewhat of an impressive opening to the show. This evening’s setlist perfectly represents the group’s vast discography and is packed to the rafters with crowd-pleasing classics. Phil Mogg intends to go out with a bang, and the band are most certainly on fire this evening and raring for the occasion. In Vinnie Moore UFO have got a bonafide guitar shredder who lights up the stage all night long with his blistering fretwork and emotive playing. Multi-talented guitarist/keyboard player Paul Raymond is the perfect foil for Moore – the pair play off each other and harmonise with one other frequently during the course of the show. Likewise, the band’s formidable rhythm section of long-serving drummer Andy Parker and bass player Rob De Luca underpin UFO’s thunderous groove all night long... ...t’s fair to say that this evening’s UFO show was most certainly otherworldly. Tonight may well mark ‘Lights Out’ for Phil Mogg’s tenure with the group, but it goes without saying that the impact and the musical legacy that he has left behind will undoubtedly live on forever. |

IT'S LIGHTS OUT IN LONDON FOR THE LAST TIME FOR UFOUFO: O2 Kentish Town Forum, LondonWords: Andy Rawll - Pictures: Steve Ritchie ... Like all great champion fighters, Phil has timed his retirement perfectly. Prowling the stage with his customary insouciant menace, his wiry frame lean and mean, and his powerful voice still packing a punch that exudes charm and venom from the opening ironic couplet from the beloved 'Mother Mary': "Try to make some changes, really on the line". ... ...Whatever the future holds for the remaining band members and the UFO name, the legacy of the band, so well represented by tonight's set will live on in metal hearts and cowboy-booted souls for many years... UFO @ O2 Forum Kentish Town, LondonWords: Geir Amundsen - Photos: Steve Ritchie Translated from Norwegian: ...The classics came as pearls on a string - "Lights Out" naturally got massive response from the London audience, "Only You Can Rock Me" and "Too Hot To Handle" are crown examples of classic British hard 70s rock, and the actual crown jewel is According to the undersigned, the evocative epic "Love To Love" - the goose skin stiffened its arms already under the unmistakable piano tree... ... Yet completely majestic - you don't know the song, so check it out immediately. They finished the set in the usual way, with a 10-minute version of "Rock Bottom" from the debut album, where Vinnie Moore got the chance to take off - and he did so to those degrees. This man takes a full guy when he's in the battle, and he was in London.. FULL REVIEW CAN BE READ HERE Andy Parker was interviewd by NORWAY ROCK MAGAZINE and will feature in the June issue of the magazine. Will be looking out for this sometime in May. |

Phil Mogg during the UFO / SAXON Tour (Pt. 1) in 2017 - photo by Justin Hulse
A STATEMENT FROM PHIL MOGG OF UFOPhil Mogg has confirmed that next year’s 50th anniversary tour with UFO will be his last as the frontman of the long-running hard rock band. Consequently, it seems almost certain that at that point they will cease to exist. UFO were formed in London in 1969 and Mogg is their only ever-present member, performing on all of the group’s 22 studio albums. “This decision has been a long time coming, I’ve considered stepping down at the end of UFO’s previous two tours,” Mogg explains. “I don’t want to call this a farewell tour as I hate that word, but next year’s gigs will represent my final tap-dancing appearances with the band. “2019 marks UFO’s 50th anniversary, so the timing feels right,” he continues. “There will be a final tour of the UK and we will also play some shows in selected other cities that the band has a strong connection with. But outside of the UK this won’t be a long tour. Being out on the road isn’t always tremendously luxurious and although the playing is as great as it ever was, the stuff that surrounds it becomes very tiresome. I always told myself that when I reached that stage I would step down, and that’s what I’m going to do. This is the right time for me to quit.” Mogg turned 70 back in April and although his voice remains strong, he admits that age played its part in his conclusion. “I’m a big reader of obituaries, and my finger always goes down to: ‘I wonder how old they were…’,” he chuckles. “The last few years have been tough, losing Lemmy was awful and I was sad that Jimmy Bain passed on a cruise ship. That distressed me quite a lot.” While many veteran bands in such a position simply cease playing live and continue to record, UFO will no longer be releasing new music. Last year’s covers collection ‘The Salentino Cuts’ is set to become a signing-off point, though Mogg insists that however unlikely the prospect might seem – the singer is a lone strand of consistency throughout a 50-year history – he would have no problem with UFO continuing with a replacement. The band’s current line-up – completed by keyboard player/second guitarist Paul Raymond, guitarist Vinnie Moore, drummer Andy Parker and bassist Rob De Luca – have of course been informed of Mogg’s decision. “I’ve told the guys that this is how it is,” he says. “They know it’s my time to go and they know that they can do whatever they want to do without me but I don’t want to play live or make records anymore, though having said that I might go on and do an album of my own. I’ll have to see how I feel about that.” Of course UFO have either split up, retired or gone on hiatus several times before but Mogg is keen to make the distinction that next year’s dates don’t just mark the end of his touring commitments with UFO – for Phil, there will be no further concerts of any kind. “For me, this is the end of my stint with UFO,” he clarifies. “This is a line in the sand. I’m suggesting we call the tour ‘Last Orders’, though I also like ‘The Bar Is Closing’. I’m also tempted to name it ‘The Drinks Are On Parker’,” he chuckles, referring to long-suffering sticksman Andy Parker. You’ll have gathered that Mogg is not about to slash his wrists anytime soon. Of course he is sad that the finishing line is now within sight but has had sufficient time to live with and process such a massive personal decision. “Maybe the best word to use is ‘bittersweet’,” he concludes. “But my time has arrived and all that remains is to make sure that we have a good tour.” READ ALl THE COMMENTS ON THE OFFICIAL UFO FACEBOOK PAGE | UFO Official website | UFO GUESTBOOK |
